Objective

The Centre of Astronomy at IIT Indore is organizing a workshop on Astrosat data analysis in association with the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and IUCAA . A five day workshop will be conducted with focus on Astrosat data analysis and hands-on training from 3rd to 7th of February, 2019. The workshop will be followed by a 2 day symposium comprising of presentations current and future research in this area. IIT Indore has a dedicated department of Centre of Astronomy with motivated students and researchers across wide spectrum of astronomical research areas which will provide the perfect platform for hosting this event.

Workshop on Multi-wavelength Sky Observations - AstroSat and Beyond

This workshop is aimed at giving an hand-on experience of handling the multi-wavelength data obtained by the Indian mission Astrosat. The focus of the workshop is graduate students and young researchers and the purpose is to expose them and train them to handle the vast pool of data collected by Astrosat. The workshop is planned to be held at IIT Indore from February 3-7, 2019. Experts from various leading institutes in India will be conducting the lectures and the hands-on sessions. The workshop will introduce the participants to the various instruments (LAXPC, SXT, CZTI) and their working principles and finally will give hands-on training on analyzing and extracting scientific products from the instruments. Science motivations and future plans regarding observations with Astrosat will also be discussed. Various science topics of interest to Astrosat ranging from compact objects, AGNs to galaxies will be addressed. Talks will be delivered on astrophysical concepts by experts in these fields to introduce the students to current and prospective research questions that can be pursued using such multi-wavelength observations.

The expected number of participants is 30. Masters students, PhD students, postdocs, teachers are welcome to take part in the workshop. The participants are expected to bring their own laptops. Participants will be given accommodation at the IIT Indore guest house and travel allowance will be provided to a limited number.

Eligibility

PhD students, postdocs, teachers are eligible for this workshop. Motivated and talented Masters, B.Tech. and undergraduate students may also apply for this workshop.

Deadline for registration for the workshop
